What I'm Packing For a Girls Weekend to North Carolina
A weekend with the girls is the perfect time to let loose and have fun. A few nights away with your friends from your past can mean a trip full of delicious food, late nights and lots of laughter.
This is the year my childhood friends, college friends and I turn 40 and I'm not mad about it, not at all. I'm kicking the year of 40th birthdays off with a girls trip to North Carolina to celebrate my bestie from college, Marie. She's hosting a house party for her big day, so I'm sneaking away for a long girls weekend (thanks babe).
On your weekend with your girls, you want to hit the streets in style and be properly packed for all activities, but no one wants to be the over-packer of the crew. Lately, I've become somewhat of a light(er) packer and pride myself on being a carry-on only type of traveler now. Seriously this is a big accomplishment, as I constantly was paying extra for my bag weighing over 50lbs.
Here are the categories of clothing I will be packing for my girls weekend in NC - Going Out Clothes (dark denim, blouses, pumps and a clutch), Staying In clothes (leggings, pjs, knits and cottons), Workout Clothes (leggings, tanks, sweatshirt and sneakers), Day Clothes (casual dress, sandals, denim and tees), and of course Pool Clothes (always pack a swimsuit and a cute cover up).
Here are a few tips on how I pack for a quick weekend getaway...
Tip #1 Check the Weather
Anytime you are traveling, it's important to know what the weather forecast is so you can pack appropriately. For my upcoming trip to North Carolina, the high is 83 degrees and the low is 52 degrees. Since there's a pretty big temperature swing from morning to night, layers are key - camisoles, long sleeves and a light weight jacket are a must.
Tip #2 Consider the Occasion/ Activities
I went directly to the source, the birthday girl herself, and asked what she was going to wear on her big day - she's going with shorts and a top. So it's going to be a pretty casual trip. Denim, light weight tops, casual day dresses, and of course I always pack workout clothes - let's just hope they get used. If you are looking for some inspiration about what to wear to a more formal 40th birthday, check out my post here.
Tip #3 Get Sample Sizes for Your Toiletries
Packing toiletries for a carry-on bag can be tricky (remember all liquids must be under 3.4oz). Pro Tip - Go to your local beauty shop and kindly ask for samples. I love the CosBar in Edwards, CO - they always hook me up with samples of cleansers, lotions, and hair care products.
Tip #4 Pack Essentials for The Plane
There are a few must-haves I bring on every flight.
- Scarf - perfect as a throw or bundled up as a pillow
- Laptop - I download a few movies for inflight entertainment
- Airpods
- Hand Cream
- Glasses
- Wallet - To purchase a glass of wine or two
