My HALO Laser Treatment Review

I'm quickly approaching my 40s and with that brings many things - wisdom and wrinkles, just to name a few! But seriously, I love trying any and all beauty treatments that offer anti-aging benefits. I've already tried IPL and the Clear and Brilliant laser treatment and have had great results with both.
When I heard about the Halo Laser Treatment, I knew I wanted to try it. Here I will share my results and a full review of my Halo Laser Treatment experience with Revival (Medical Day Spa in Edwards, CO).

About my Skin
A few years ago, I developed melasma (a dark masking on the face) lucky me and I also have rosacea. I have normal to dry skin and have occasional hormonal breakouts. My biggest skin concerns are; fine lines, melasma, sun damage and redness in my cheeks (from rosacea).
After my consultation with Jess, at Revival, she recommended the Halo treatment because it will address all of my skin concerns. She also explained to me that the downtime is minimal and Halo is perfect for people with melasma - Sign me up!
Why HALO Laser Treament?
Halo is the world's first Hybrid Fractional laser. Ok great, what does that mean? It means that the Halo laser delivers both ablative and non-ablative wavelengths to the same treatment zone. This treatment not only addresses the top layer of skin (which heals relatively quickly) but also treats the dermis (deep levels of skin, which will improve slowly over time.) Because of this dual-wavelength feature you can attain great results with minimal downtime.
A Few HALO Facts
- Halo offers a total rejuvination of the skin. Improving skin texture, minimizing pore size and fine lines, evening out skin tone, sun damage, visible signs of aging, discoloration and gives the skin an over all glow.
- Halo has no age restriction and works for all skin types.
- For optimal results it is recommended to have 1 - 3 Halo treatments.
- It is important to have limited sun exposure 2 weeks prior and at least 2 weeks post Halo treatment.
- Itching, swelling, redness, peppering (MENDS) and bronzing or darkening of the skin are all normal side effects during the healing time post Halo.
- Drinking lots of water and keeping the skin well hydrated are pertinent during recovery.
- You can expect 4 - 7 days of downtime.
What to Expect
Upon arriving to Revival for my Halo Laser Treatment, Jess's assistant took photos of my face so we would have a baseline of my skin's condition. Next they applied a numbing cream to my face (this takes about 40 mintes to fully kick in). DO NOT skip on this step, the numbing cream makes the experience much more tolerable, especially for people with rosacea, because our skin is more sensitive to heat.
Once my face was numb, the actual treatment began. Jess was extrememly thorough and continually checked in with me and inquired about my level of pain. The treatment wasn't necessarily painful but the discomfort does escalate throughout the procedure - the heat builds. The entire face took about 20 minutes.
Immediately after the Halo Laser my face was extremely hot - Jess then sprayed Avene ( a thermal spring water ) onto my face and that cooled it down and felt refreshing. For the next hour and a half my face was hot and uncomfortable but was not as painful as other treatments I have had. Revival sent me home with a Post-Procedure Recovery kit by Avene. You can also apply a ice pack to cool down your face.
On day two, my skin no longer felt hot, but it felt like aligator skin, thick and dry. My skin continued to feel this way through day five. Then the MENDS slowly started to come off, revealing baby soft and clear skin. By day 9 my skin was completely healed and had the Halo glow!
Recovery Time
Everyone will respond differently to this laser treatment because it's geared specifically for each individual's skin needs. Here is a run down of my recovery time and healing process post Halo treatment.
Day of Treatment - My skin was swollen, red and hot. I slept with my head elevated to help with the swelling.
Day One - The morning after Halo, my skin was slightly uncomfortable and still red but was no longer hot. It felt like alligator skin- thick and rough. You can not use makeup unitl after 24 hours post Halo. Use recommended post treatment skincare.
Day Two and Three - My face was less swollen and the redness was gone. My skin had a ton of small dark brown spots (MENDS) all over it. My face feels tight and a bit itchy. I started working out again!
Day Four, Five, Six - Starting on day four I applied a tinted moisturizer and the rest of my makeup regimen. I felt comfortable being out in public. The swelling was gone and the MENDS slowly come off more and more each day. Unless you were within inches of my face you couldn't tell I was still healing from the Halo Laser.
Day Seven and Eight - More and more MENDS are coming off. I applied normal foundation and started to see the Halo Glow!
Day Nine - My skin is completely healed and has the beautiful Halo Glow!

Skincare Post Halo Laser Treatment
Revival sent me home with the Post-Procedure Recovery Kit from Avene. Jess instructed me to not apply any makeup or exercise for the first 24 hours ( believe me, you won't want to anyway ). For the first 24 hours I sprayed my face with the Avene thermal spring water to cool my face and keep it moist. I used the face wash and applied Cicalfate (restorative skin cream) morning and night. It is extremly important to follow your Aesthetician or Doctors post treatment care regimen. You can't exfoliate your skin until all of the MENDS are gone - for reference, I didn't exfoliate my skin until Day 9.
My Results
I'm extremely happy with my results from the Halo Laser Treatment I had at Revival. As you can see, from my before and after Halo photos my skin's overall texture, clarity and plumpness has improved. And I have the Halo Glow!
